Tripura court sentences man to life for wife’s murder

Agartala: A Tripura district and sessions court in Khowai sentenced Pradip Nath Chowdhury, 40, of Gourangatilla under Kalyanpur Police Station to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in 2024, said Tripura Police.
Chowdhury was convicted under IPC Section 302 and fined Rs 10,000. Failure to pay will result in an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
The victim, Pratima Nath Chowdhury, was married to the accused for about six years. On April 6, 2024, he allegedly assaulted her at their residence with a wooden object, causing severe head injuries and fractures. She was taken to a local hospital and later referred to Agartala Govt Medical College, where she died during treatment.
Police filed a charge sheet on Aug 31, 2024. After examining evidence and trial proceedings, the court found him guilty and pronounced the sentence.
