  • Kolkata: Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday attended a programme to rename Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital as Bidhan Chandra Roy Multispecialty Hospital. Later, at a Netaji Indoor Stadium event, he announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening women’s safety across Bengal, including the launch of dedicated women’s help desks in every police station and the rollout of the 112 emergency response service statewide.

Announcing the transfer of money to accounts under Annapurna Yojana, Adhikari said: “We have constituted a women’s safety commission. Starting Thursday, all police stations in the state will have a women’s help desk. We will also set up a women’s police station in every subdivision. We will not tolerate Abhaya-like incidents anymore,” he said.

He said police in the state currently take an average of three hours to respond to complaints, adding that the introduction of the 112 service is expected to reduce response time.

According to the CM, the women’s safety commission will address complaints from women who were allegedly denied justice in cases of abuse or harassment. He said if complaints were found to be genuine after investigation, strict legal action would be taken against the accused.
