  • Kolkata: While some private hospitals in the state are already enlisted to be part of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, patient enrolment is yet to begin. Sources in the health department said the software through which patient enrolment will begin is getting final touches.

“The new patient enrolment under Ayushman Bharat will begin once the software is ready. The migration process from Swasthya Sathi to Ayushman Bharat for patients is already on but it will take some time as eligibility of beneficiaries is going through a stringent verification procedure,” said state health minister Sharadwat Mukherjee.

While Swasthya Sathi, introduced by the Mamata Banerjee govt, was a universal health scheme for all Bengal residents, irrespective of income status, the central govt’s Ayushman Bharat has stringent eligibility criteria.

Some private hospitals have already completed the registration process to be part of this scheme while the rest are working on it.
