  • Kolkata: A departmental probe has been launched into a Rs 1 crore canteen bill incurred by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education during the last financial year. The expenditure coincided with the tenure of former council secretary Priyadarshini Mallick.

Priyadarshini, daughter of former minister Jyotipriya Mallick, was removed from her post on May 15 following the formation of the new govt.

Sources revealed that the canteen had been tasked with catering for multiple programmes across various locations. The unusually high billing was subsequently flagged by senior officials within the council. Mallick could not be reached for comment immediately.
