  • Kolkata: Mother of the Baruipur rape and murder victim said while she was happy that the accused was killed, the others involved in the murder of the 12-year-old should be given death penalty as well. On Wednesday, she told TOI that she would have been happier if the accused would have been killed in daylight.

The key accused, was killed in an ‘encounter’ with the police on Wednesday morning while he was trying to flee from the incident spot where he was taken.

The victim’s father said that while they did not know any of the accused, their village, Surjapur, has been facing security issues for a few months now. “Anti-socials loiter in our village and drink liquor in the open,” he said.

He said all the accused should be awarded death penalty. “I did not know any of the arrested persons. But our village is now an antisocial den dotted by several ganja, and illicit liquor hubs,” he said. According to the father, such an incident should not happen to any other girl.

He added that he was satisfied with the assurances that the CM had given. “He has assured me that the accused will be punished. The police have also turned more active after the CM intervened and I trust them as well,” he said.

Recounting the events of the horrific day, he said his daughter left home to attend a friend’s birthday. When the class 6 student did not come back till 6.30 pm, her parents got worried. “We started looking for her since it’s not secured in our village after sunset. But we could not find her till her body was discovered the next morning.”

A wood trader, he has another house at Ratanpur village, where his wife is staying along with one of her daughters.

They have four kids — three daughters and a son. The victim was their third one.
