  • Baruipur: Security deployment has been raised near the house of the Baruipur rape-murder victim in Surjapur Haat area from Wednesday night. On Thursday, a contingent of around 40 central force personnel was deployed on Kulpi Road as well as in the surrounding areas of the house where the girl’s father is staying alone. His wife and three other children have moved to their other house in Ratanpur, about 2-km away.

“I shall fight for justice till the end. I have lost one of my daughters. But I have full faith in the administration probing the case. I also need to remain secured for my fight for justice,” he said.

The security was stepped up following a request from the victim’s kin. A cop said, “The heavy deployment of security forces will be in place for 24 hours. We are keeping a close watch on those visiting the victim’s house.”

Asked about Kabir Mollah, who landed in police net from Basirhat, the girl’s father said, “I have neither heard of nor seen him in this area. I am depending on the administration to find the culprits and hang them.”

The victim’s family members are still unable to come to terms with the tragedy; they are refusing to eat and spending sleepless nights. “Why did they not allow her to live?” the girl’s father asked.

Some neighbours have been taking care of the man.

The girl’s mother and the three other children are being looked after by her relatives at present. “One of the culprits was killed and rest, too, need to be given the death penalty for what they have done to my child,” the girl’s mother said.

A neighbour said, “We have no words to comfort the family. The child used to come to my house as my daughter was her friend. It is a loss for us as well. We are trying to help the family recover from the shock. All of us hope the police and the administration will give the accused capital punishment, and none involved in the heinous crime will be spared.”

Speaking of Ananda Sardar, one of the accused arrested in connection with the crime, a relative of the girl said, “We have seen him around as his house is about 1-km away. But none of us ever interacted with him. We heard from some locals that he was part of a drug-peddling racket. But we never raised any voice against their misdeeds. Why did they target and kill our child so brutally?”
