• Tripura secures Rs1.21 lakh crore investment pledges after 342 MoUs

  • Agartala: Tripura has secured investment pledges worth Rs 1.21 lakh crore after finalizing 342 MoUs at the Tripura Destination Business Conclave 2026, which concluded on Friday.

    Industries and commerce secretary Kiran Gitte said the event reflects the state govt’s ongoing initiatives to draw both domestic and international investors from 45 entities.

    Over 2,000 investors and delegates from 1,200 organizations across India, alongside participants from Dubai and Canada, took part. Diplomats and high commissioners from 10 nations were in attendance, representing 11 countries, including the Japan Trade Organisation.

    Gitte mentioned that Tripura had signed 470 MoUs worth close to Rs 40,000 crore in the last four years. He highlighted that ministers conducted individual meetings with investors, while the chief minister held discussions with foreign delegates during the conclave. Despite adverse weather affecting turnout, about 300 startups and entrepreneurs from Tripura joined the event.

    He emphasized that the state has implemented various reforms aimed at enhancing the investment environment and simplifying processes for businesses.

    According to Gitte, Tripura’s Gross State Domestic Product has doubled in the last six years, alongside a significant increase in capital expenditure. The power sector successfully brought in investment proposals amounting to Rs 31,080 crore.

    Meanwhile, the tourism sector signed 31 MoUs totaling Rs 12,303 crore, and the transport sector secured 22 MoUs valued at Rs 356.5 crore. In urban development, 11 MoUs worth Rs 16,700 crore were signed following talks with 55 companies. The education sector also attracted 15 MoUs with a value of Rs 568 crore, Gitte stated.

    As many as 34 MoUs were signed in agriculture and horticulture, amounting to Rs 1,675 crore, while the higher education department signed agreements for 25 projects with a total value of Rs 3,000 crore. Fisheries and ARDD signed 27 MoUs, proposing investments of Rs 5,000 crore.

    He also indicated that the forest sector signed 39 MoUs worth Rs 1,727 crore, which includes 14 agreements related to the bamboo industry. The health sector secured eight MoUs valued at Rs 4,000 crore, while 43 MoUs worth Rs 13,248 crore were signed in the information technology sector. The industries and commerce department led the tally, signing 110 MoUs worth Rs 30,000 crore, Gitte added.
