Dankuni: Bengal is reaping the benefits of “double-engine govt”, CM Suvendu Adhikari said on Saturday and added that the direct land purchase policy proposed by the state govt was attracting investments and expansion projects. Laying the foundation stone of Lux Cozi Group’s Rs 600-crore expansion project at its manufacturing facility in Dankuni, the CM reiterated that the govt will adopt a three-pronged strategy -- education, employment and support for entrepreneurs -- for the development of Bengal.
At the event, Adhikari also announced that the ‘bhoomi puja’ of Shyam Steel’s Rs 15,000-crore plant will take place at Bankura’s Mezia on July 17. “The bhoomi puja of Amul’s new plant at Dhulagarh is scheduled on July 18. In Aug, Durgapur will have a Rs 4,000-crore steel plant project. Many more such expansion projects are lined up,” the CM added.
“Bengal is reaping the benefits of double-engine govt. Once, the financial condition of Bengal was better than Gujarat but since the Left regime, Bengal’s state went on a decline. The state is still reeling under debts of around Rs 8 lakh crore. With this amount, we could have carried out several infrastructural development work,” said the CM.
“We have taken a three-pronged strategy to improve the education system, generate employment in the state and provide incentives and loans under various schemes to entrepreneurs. Within a few months one lakh people will get govt jobs. The expansion of manufacturing plants will also generate employment. The rush for college admission has also increased now as people are seeing a glimmer of hope for employment,” Adhikari added.
Talking about the change in Bengal’s business environment in the past two months, Adhikari said, “Now, no one demands bribes from trucks standing at Dankuni. Even Lux Cozi Group did not have to face any extortion bid since the formation of the new govt.”
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya said, “Proposals have come to set up an AI-driven hospital in Bengal. The Tatas and the Birlas... who once faced humiliation in the state, will also make investments.” Industry and commerce minister Tapas Roy and health minister Sharadwat Mukherjee were present at the event.
Lux Industries chairman Ashok Todi said, “We are expanding the 8 lakh sq ft Dankuni facility by another 12 lakh sq ft, creating a massive 20 lakh sq ft manufacturing campus. With a planned investment of Rs 600 crore, this will be one of Asia’s largest garment manufacturing plants. This will generate 3,000 direct and 6,000 indirect employment.”
