  • Kolkata: Kolkata Police have busted two fake loan call centres operating from central Kolkata and arrested 10 people for allegedly duping loan seekers by posing as executives of a leading finance company and collecting money on the promise of instant low-interest loans.

Raids on July 9 led to the arrest of nine accused and the seizure of 48 keypad phones, a smartphone, a laptop, six SIM cards, fake rubber stamps, notebooks containing prospective victims’ details and scripted calling sheets.

The action followed a complaint at Metiabruz police station by a woman who alleged she was cheated of Rs 25,450 after the fraudsters promised her a loan of Rs 2.2 lakh. Police said the accused shared forged company documents and a fake demand draft before allegedly collecting money in 20 transactions towards processing fees, insurance and documentation without disbursing any loan.
