Kolkata: CBI on Tuesday arrested Shibu Kumar Singh, a proclaimed offender wanted in the 2007 murder of Barrackpore gold merchant Sukanta Ghosh.
Singh had been on the run for 19 years and was found in Gorakhpur, UP. He was living under the fake name Akhilesh Kumar Shahi, said cops.
Ghosh was murdered on July 6, 2007, in Barrackpore’s Latbagan. The merchant, whose body had 18 stab wounds, was killed because he refused to pay extortion money to local mafia, police said. The Calcutta High Court handed the case to CBI in 2009. The agency filed charge sheets in 2010 and 2011, naming Singh and others as key conspirators.
