Howrah: The Howrah City Police has no leads in the armed robbery reported on Sarat Chatterjee Road under Chatterjeehat Police Station, a senior officer said. “So far, we have not been able to recover any CCTV footage related to the robbery. Our informants have also failed to provide any clue. Even so, we are pursuing the investigation aggressively from every angle.”
The incident took place last Sunday at a G+3 house on Sarat Chatterjee Road when the homeowners were away. According to the complaint filed by the owner, businessman Suman Basu, three robbers barged into the house. His wife, who also helped manage the businesses, was also out at the time.
Their 17-year-old son, a class-12 student at a reputable private English-medium school in Kolkata, and their 12-year-old daughter, a class-7 student, were at home with their pet dog.
It was alleged that when the boy went downstairs at night to move a car parked on the road into the garage, he was attacked by an armed and masked intruder. When he tried to resist, he was stabbed in the hand. When his sister heard his scream and went to his aid, she was reportedly struck hard on the forehead with the butt of a pistol by another masked assailant. The dog was also injured.
Later, the boy told cops there were three criminals in total and they spent around 10 minutes rummaging through cupboards before fleeing with a large quantity of gold jewellery and cash.
Police said the house had only one entrance and exit, with two CCTV cameras installed at different angles. However, despite repeated searches, no footage of the robbers has been found.
Investigators are especially puzzled that though a Kali Puja was taking place on the same lane that night and many people were moving around until late, no one saw anything or heard a sound. Police said every possible effort was being made to track down the attackers.
