Digital content creator labs in state schools soon

Kolkata: Digital content creator labs will soon be introduced in state-run schools, aiming to train one lakh students annually over the next five years. The dept of school education has sought details from affiliated schools regarding their existing computer lab infrastructure.
The dept sent a Google Form to school heads, asking them to fill it out by July 22. Additionally, the dept of information technology and electronics has requested comprehensive information about the existing infrastructure and human resources available for these labs. Students of classes 9 to 12 will receive this training. The main objective of the move is to enhance digital literacy, helping students build creativity, storytelling communication skills, and future-ready capabilities in animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR).
This initiative aligns with the Union Budget 2026–27, where Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a major push to strengthen skills in the rapidly expanding AVGC sector. In her budget speech, she proposed setting up content creator labs in around 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges nationwide. As a first step toward implementing this plan, the state school education dept is assessing existing school lab infrastructure to determine the extent of the upgrades required.
