Kolkata: A 30-year-old woman was molested at a night club on Park Street in the early hours of Sunday. A venue employee was also involved in allegedly assaulting the woman’s fiance when the latter tried to intervene, the woman claimed.
According to cops, the incident took place at around 3 am when the woman was preparing to leave the establishment. The complainant alleged that a man aged around 35 approached her and groped her with the clear intent to outrage her modesty. When her fiance noticed the harassment and protested, a staff member of the establishment intervened, and, instead of assisting the woman, allegedly sided with the molester, aiding and abetting him. The staff member physically assaulted the fiance and smashed his spectacles.
Following the ordeal, the woman and her fiance lodged a police complaint. The police initially logged the matter under a general diary entry, which was turned into an FIR.
The case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including section 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and section 324(4) (mischief causing damage).
A senior police officer confirmed that an investigation into the case is in progress. Cops are reviewing the establishment’s internal CCTV footage to identify both the molester and the rogue staff member involved in the assault.
