4 Rehab Staff In Cop Net After Minor’s Death in Bansdroni

Kolkata: Police have arrested four employees of a local rehabilitation center after a 17-year-old boy, who was suffering from mental health issues, was allegedly thrashed to death in Bansdroni on Sunday.
Parents of the deceased boy, who was a resident of Bansdroni, had contacted the rehabilitation facility on Sunday for his treatment, police sources said. The accused have been identified as Swapan Pramanik, Sourav Das, Monojit Adhikari and Nitish Mondal. When the staff members of the centre arrived at the boy’s residence to take him to the facility, the family members alleged that they were aggressive and forcefully dragged him out of his home and shoved him into the vehicle. They assaulted the boy inside the vehicle while en-route to the centre.
The rehab staff contacted the family to inform them that their son had suddenly fallen ill, complained of severe breathing difficulties, and was being rushed to a medical facility. He was taken to MR Bangur Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, Mousumi Chowdhury (45), at Bansdroni Police Station, a murder case was registered.
The news of the teenager’s death triggered widespread outrage and tension across the neighborhood.
Acting swiftly on the specific allegations, Bansdroni police launched an immediate probe and arrested the accused. They were produced before a court and remanded in police custody, said senior officers at Lalbazar.
“We initiated an investigation immediately upon receiving the written complaint from the deceased boy’s family. Four persons connected to the rehabilitation facility are being questioned and further arrests cannot be ruled out,” a senior Kolkata Police officer said.
Police said that the body has been sent for a detailed autopsy.
