Bikers' group, which suspended rides after PM Narendra Modi's appeal, to resume adventures

KOLKATA: After three months off the road, the Enfield Tigers Motorcycle Riders Club, a collective of Royal Enfield owners and riders, is set to restart its breakfast and overnight rides from Aug 7, 2026.
The club had voluntarily suspended all organised rides on May 17, responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to citizens to conserve oil after the US-Iran war triggered concerns over fuel supplies and prices.
Members said the decision, taken during a ride on Bombay Road along NH6, was intended as a show of civic responsibility at a time when the government was urging restraint in fuel consumption.
Although the conflict has re-escalated in recent days, several curbs imposed during the crisis, including restrictions on the use of LPG, have now been withdrawn.
With fuel-use restrictions lifted, the riders have decided to return to the highways, beginning with a ride to Patratu Valley in Jharkhand and nearby waterfalls.
"Enfield Tiger Motorcycle Riders Club is just over a year old. On May 17, 2026, while on a breakfast ride along Bombay Road, NH6, we decided to suspend all rides in line with the PM's appeal. We pride at being a responsible riders group and wanted to respond positively to the crisis that the nation faced. Now that the restrictions on fuel usage have been lifted, we are resuming our rides and plan to visit Patratu Valley in Jharkhand and the surrounding waterfalls. Our ride is scheduled to begin on Aug 7, 2026," said Pritam Chatterjee, vice president of the club.
Before the suspension, Enfield Tigers had built a regular riding calendar around short breakfast runs and longer overnight journeys.
The breakfast rides usually began at dawn, taking members out of the city to highway dhabas before the return leg.
The group had also organised longer expeditions to distant destinations such as Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh and Gujarat, combining motorcycling with travel, camaraderie and road discipline.
For members, the resumption marks a return to routine as well as to the community culture that formed around the club in its first year.
Organisers said the Aug ride would follow usual safety protocols.
