Kolkata: Twenty rebel Trinamool MPs, who recently joined the Nationalist Citizen Party of India (NCPI), observed Martyrs’ Day in New Delhi on Tuesday by paying floral tributes at Raj Ghat to the 13 Youth Congress workers killed in police firing on July 21, 1993.
Among those present were Yusuf Pathan, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Abu Taher Khan, Satabdi Roy, Bapi Haldar, Khalilur Rahaman, Rachna Banerjee and Partha Bhowmick.
Sudip Bandyopadhyay said, “In 1993, police firing killed 13 innocent Youth Congress workers during Jyoti Basu govt. We have joined a new party NCPI now. So, we thought of coming to Raj Ghat and remember those martyrs...”
Ghosh Dastidar said, “Mahatma Gandhiji, father of the nation, is a martyr. The soldiers of Kargil are also martyrs. Since we are commemorating the martyrs at Rajghat, we paid our respects to all of them.”
