Kolkata: A 39-year-old man was allegedly abducted from the parking lot of RDB mall in Salt Lake sector V on Tuesday evening but thanks to prompt reaction by mall security personnel who dialled 100 and informed cops about the abduction and gave the registration number of the car, the man was rescued within two hours from Haringhata in Nadia.
The multi district cops operation helped them nab all four men who had abducted the man as Haringhata cops handed them over to Bidhannagar police on Tuesday night.
A senior Bidhannagar Police officer said preliminary investigation suggested the accused were allegedly trying to recover money they claimed the victim owed them, pointing to a financial dispute as the motive behind the kidnapping.
Police said the alleged abduction took place around 5 pm when the victim was leaving the Sector V office hub on his motorcycle.
“We got a call that four men allegedly assaulted a man, forced him into a car and fled. We examined CCTV footage from the area to identify the route of the vehicle and began a chase while alerting neighbouring police districts,” said a senior officee of Bidhannagar city police.
Using the registration details of the victim’s motorcycle, police established his identity and tracked the suspects’ movements. The car was later traced to Haringhata in Nadia district shortly after 7 pm.
Police intercepted the vehicle, rescued the victim and detained the four occupants.
The suspects were brought to the Electronics Complex police station for questioning.
Police said legal action would be initiated after the victim or his family lodged a formal written complaint.
