  • Kolkata: The state has decided to open subsidised Maa Ahar Centres at govt institutions, including hospitals and healthcare facilities across Bengal.

Urban development and municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul handed a letter to health minister Sharadwat Mukherjee in state assembly on Wednesday, requesting him to make the arrangements to start such canteens, which will offer fish and rice for Rs 5 twice a week. “The plan is to have Maa Ahar Centre in all govt healthcare establishments, where people can have meals at a subsidised rate,” said Mukherjee.

At Maa Ahar Centres, non-veg food will be served on four days a week—fish and rice twice, egg and rice twice and veg food twice.
