Shankar moves privilege motion against Kunal, TMC MLA says sorry

Kolkata: State parliamentary affairs Shankar Ghosh on Friday moved a breach of privilege notice against Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh, accusing him of causing disturbance in the assembly and showing disrespect to the speaker’s chair.
The notice comes two days after Kunal was suspended from the assembly and escorted out by marshals following a confrontation during a debate.
After the notice was moved, Kunal apologised to speaker Rathin Bose for his conduct while maintaining that he did not intend to disrespect the speaker or the assembly and his actions were only a mark of protest.
Speaking in the House on Friday, Kunal said he was being denied opportunities to participate in debates and discussions. Highlighting differences in the opposition camp, Kunal said, “There is no denying that a problem has developed between us and the opposition chief whip.”
“What do they want? Do they want my assembly membership cancelled? Let them do it. They are trying to achieve this through the backdoor,” he added.
As Kunal alleged that govt wanted an inactive opposition, Shankar said that the governing side had no role in the opposition disputes.
