Kolkata: A day after BJP took out a rally in Kolkata against “anti-national and jihadi” forces launching attacks on media persons, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Tuesday took out a rally to protest the presence of “outside forces” in the Friday rally and attacks on media persons.
Rally-goers from Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, Jadavpur, Diamond Harbour, Baruipur, Basirhat and Barrackpore gathered at Sealdah. Another rally with ABVP supporters from Howrah, Hooghly and Arambag came from Howrah. Nearly 13,500 students and RSS-linked organisations of teachers held a rally on Rani Rashmoni Road.
ABVP, the students’ wing of RSS, alleged that on Friday, “anti-national forces tried to recreate a Nepal or Bangladesh in Kolkata.” Nilkanth Bhattacharya, state secretary of ABVP, said, “Nationalist forces have joined us and Gen Z is with us now. We have witnessed how foreign funds have been used to bolster anti-national movements. They tried to recreate Nepal or Bangladesh in West Bengal. That has been foiled now. We have taken to the streets to protest against that.”
Meanwhile, RSS has already raised alarm over “jihadi forces” active in Bengal. In its latest issue of Swastika, a publication of the RSS, it said, “Anti-nationals have started raising their voices since BJP assumed office in Bengal. They consider the Jihadis as their masters. More than appeasement, they prefer to oppose the BJP and foment anti-national sentiments.”
The author, who urged the BJP to move ahead as an exceptional political party, said platforms like 'desh bachao mancha’ (the one led by Trinamool neta Purnendu Basu) were created with the motive to help anti-national activities and should be banned.
It has also urged the state govt to uproot western and foreign thoughts that nurture a “culture of lumpens.” “The govt will have to implement thoughts of Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s Hindu Homeland,” it said.
