Day after egg-pelting & assault on TMC neta, cops arrest him

Kolkata: TMC Hingalganj panchayat samiti president Sahidullah Gazi was arrested on Tuesday, a day after an angry mob dragged him out of the block development office and assaulted him over allegations of taking commissions for releasing welfare scheme funds and extortion.
Gazi had to stay confined inside Hingalganj BDO office for nearly seven hours on Monday after BJP workers, supporters and local residents gathered outside, demanding action against the TMC neta. When police finally escorted him out in the evening, protesters hurled eggs and assaulted him despite police presence, leaving him injured.
According to local sources, Gazi had been on the run since the assembly election results and returned home only a few days ago. His visit to the BDO office on Monday triggered the protest.
