Kolkata: The anti-burglary unit of the detective department has arrested a 21-year-old youth, Asif Hossain, after gold ornaments and cash were stolen from a house in Ekbalpore.
The incident occurred on July 16, when the residents were away. The victim, a newly married Canada resident, was in Kolkata to attend a wedding, and had bought gold worth over Rs 31 lakh. The accused broke open an almirah and made away with 201.2 gm gold jewellery and Rs 4 lakh cash.
Police arrested Hossain from Vedic Village, where he was hiding, using the cash. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and officers recovered a major portion of the stolen gold.
