Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday permitted police to continue investigation in a 2024 case filed against Binpur BJP MLA Pranat Tudu but barred cops from taking any coercive action without the court’s approval till Oct 12.
Seeking a quashing of the FIR against Tudu, his counsel Moyukh Mukherjee said the complaint had been filed as a counter after the BJP neta had complained of an attack on him and his security personnel.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya observed that the HC had stayed the investigation since the presence of Tudu – then the BJP candidate for Jhargram in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls – might be required at the time of counting of votes and declaration of result.
“Today, the court is considering the matter when reasons which were germane at the time of passing interim order pales into insignificance,” Justice Bhattacharyya observed.
