Kolkata: Two Trinamool MPs who switched over to NCPI – Abu Taher Khan and Khalilur Rahman – got in touch with veteran TMC MP Saugata Roy on Wednesday, a day after skipping the NDA parliamentary meeting, sparking speculation about their political future. A source said the MPs want to return to TMC.
“Abu Taher Khan and Khalilur Rahman are constantly in touch with Saugata Roy and have expressed their wish to return to TMC. Yusuf Pathan has also contacted the leadership of the Trinamool parliamentary party. The MPs have said it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to join BJP or work with NDA,” said a source. Khan, Rahman and Pathan all represent constituencies in Murshidabad district. While Khan is the MP of Murshidabad, Rahman represents Jangipur and Pathan was elected from Behrampore.
The three MPs have been uncomfortable about joining NCPI since the beginning, said sources.
Speaking on this, Roy said, “I am in regular contact with them. They will make their own decisions.” While Khan could not be contacted by TOI, the MP had earlier said he would “never join BJP”.
Meanwhile, sources say NCPI MPs are awaiting Supreme Court’s decision on Shiv Sena before considering their next move. After Speaker Om Birla approved the decision of six Sena (UBT) MPs to join Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, senior advocate Kapil Sibal filed a case in Supreme Court over the anti-defection law.
NCPI MPs are likely to meet CM Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday at Banga Bhavan where they will discuss various issues of their constituencies.
