Kolkata: Former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh on Thursday got the illegally constructed pergola atop his G+3 Badan Roy Lane house demolished, 45 days after KMC served him a notice.
The notice followed a hearing and physical inspection by KMC officials, who found that the pergola had been constructed without sanction. “It was mandatory for the owner of the building to raze illegally constructed pergola today. Or else we would have dismantled it this week ,” said a KMC official.
Civic officials said the construction was carried out after tinkering with the original building plan. KMC had served a notice earlier, but no action was taken.
In Sept 2024, KMC’s buildings department served a notice to Ghosh and his wife Sangeeta for inspection of their four-storey house at 83 Badan Roy Lane following complaints from a structural engineer and his neighbours.
“We had sent a team of civic officials to Ghosh’s house who after a physical inspection had found out that additional constructions were carried out without seeking permission from our department,” said a senior KMC buildings department official.
