  • KOLKATA: Panic gripped commuters at Dakshineswar railway station in Kolkata after an overhead electric wire snapped with a loud bang, disrupting train services.

    Videos from the scene show passengers jumping out of a local train and running to safety moments after the overhead traction wire snapped.

    Some commuters on the platform can also be seen running away from the affected area as smoke spread near the train.

    The incident took place on Wednesday at Dakshineswar railway station on the busy Sealdah–Dankuni section.

    The power supply to the affected track was switched off, leading to the temporary suspension of train services on the Sealdah–Dankuni route while repair work was carried out.

    Railway technical and engineering teams reached the spot and carried out restoration work.

    After the damaged overhead wire was repaired, train services resumed normal operations.
