  • Kolkata: The state govt will introduce a “one-side parking” system across Kolkata and bring the city’s parking network under a unified digital platform, urban development and municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul said on Friday.

A dedicated app will provide real-time information on available spaces, allow users to reserve slots and make digital payments. “We are trying to launch the app before Durga Puja,” Paul said.

Initially, around 15,000 KMC parking spaces will be integrated, before the system is extended to Howrah, Bidhannagar and other urban local bodies.

Attendants will carry photo ID cards, while fee collection will gradually become app-based. Govt will also crack down on illegal neighbourhood parking and impose penalties on buses, taxis and cabs occupying roadsides for prolonged periods. New multi-level parking units are also planned.
