Kolkata: The city police on Friday threw a tight security ring around Bangladesh-born writer Taslima Nasrin following her arrival in Kolkata after 19 years.
Acknowledging the persistent threat perception surrounding the author, the Special Branch (SB) of Kolkata Police has completed a detailed security reconnaissance and is maintaining continuous coordination with central intelligence agencies.
Under the ground-level security protocol formulated by the SB, access to the writer will be strictly regulated. Officers stated that a rigid “by invitation only” policy will be enforced for all public interactions, media sessions and literary events. Furthermore, individuals seeking proximity to Nasrin will undergo personal vetting by security personnel.
Police officials revealed that Nasrin will be accorded a high-level security cover comparable to that of a state minister, complete with escort vehicles and dedicated local security teams. Special security measures will be deployed at larger public venues, particularly the one scheduled to be attended by CM Suvendu Adhikari. Her security too will be reviewed on the ground, whenever required.
As part of the preventative safety measures, security personnel at event venues will enforce strict entry prohibitions. Attendees will not be permitted to carry umbrellas, water bottles or any handheld objects that could potentially be hurled toward the writer.
