Kolkata: Above 90% engineering students at Jadavpur University (JU) bagged job offers in reputed companies across the country in this year’s (2025-2026) placement season. The hiring trends witnessed strong traction in core engineering sectors. A student from the computer science and engineering department has got the highest package this year - Rs 62 lakh per annum - from a multinational firm in Hyderabad.
Three students have secured job offers that are above Rs 50 lakh annually and 91 students got job offers that are between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 45 lakh per annum. The mechanical engineering department and the metallurgical & material engineering department witnessed 100% placement. Engineering departments such as computer science, information technology, electronics & telecommunication, production, power, electrical, chemical and construction recorded 90% and above placement.
The recruitment drive started around Aug-end, 2025. According to the university administration, the wrap-up rounds are still continuing and the figures might increase. Among the 1045 students registered for placement, 943 students have received job offers so far, including pre-placement offers. The university has got more than 1000 offers till date. More than 250 companies came for placement this year and some of the prominent companies are Amazon, Google, Texas Instruments, Visa, Wells Fargo, Airbus, BPCL, EIL, ITC, Tata Steel.
Placement officer Subhendu Kundu said, “In this placement season, we witnessed strong traction in core engineering hiring. Major placement happened in the energy, manufacturing and consulting sectors. There is a relatively subdued trend in IT hiring compared to earlier years. The current geopolitical situation prompted the companies to change their hiring strategies. Many global companies are establishing their global capability centers in India and entry-level jobs are moving to the country.”
JU vice-chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said, “Though we did not have an international offer this year, the overall placement scenario is excellent. We are proud of the university’s brand value and the intellectual capabilities of our students.”
