• Tea, textiles on agenda at Suvendu-Nirmala meet

  • Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday met Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi to discuss reviving Bengal’s tea industry and improving the welfare of workers in the state’s textiles sector.

    “Today’s meeting went well. Apart from financial matters, the finance minister showed particular interest in the welfare of tea garden workers and weavers,” Adhikari said after the meeting, which was attended by four NCPI MPs as well.

    BJP MP Manoj Tigga, who accompanied the CM, said the discussions covered reopening closed tea gardens, improving the functioning of operational estates, increasing workers’ wages and implementing central schemes pending in Bengal.

    Adhikari also met Union education minister Prahlad Joshi, who welcomed Bengal’s decision to sign the MoU for the PM SHRI Schools scheme.

    Pradhan also urged the state to accelerate implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana so more households could benefit from rooftop solar power.
