Kolkata: The West Bengal Pradesh Congress will on Wednesday hold a “Lalbazar Chalo” march and stage a sit-in outside the Kolkata Police headquarters, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order in the state and demanding restoration of the rule of law.
“The law and order situation in the state is no longer under control. In fact, there is no law and order left to break. Our movement is aimed at restoring the rule of law, not creating disorder,” WBPC president Subhankar Sarkar said.
Addressing a press conference, Sarkar said the protest would remain peaceful and participants would follow “gandhigiri”.
“We will not indulge in violence. We will submit our demands before the govt. If the police decide to use lathis against peaceful protesters, we will not retaliate. However, if the law and order situation deteriorates, the police administration alone will be responsible,” he said, alleging that the state’s policing had failed.
