Kolkata: After clocking 89 mm of rain on Monday Kolkata recorded only 3.8 mm of rain on Tuesday. While the city is expected to encounter light to moderate rain on Wednesday, the Met office has forecast enhanced rainfall activity in Kolkata and rest of South Bengal from Thursday onwards.
“The monsoon trough is likely to shift over South Bengal by Thursday due to which we can expect enhanced monsoon activity. Kolkata is likely to get some intense rain spell between Thursday and Friday,” said HR Biswas, head at Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata.
At present the monsoon trough is over North Bengal. With the monsoon flow likely to get reactivated, the Met office expects normal rainfall activity across Bengal in August too. Despite a slight rain deficit for Kolkata in July, the overall monsoon rain count for the city currently is slightly above normal as the city had logged surplus rain in June.
