  • Kolkata: The state govt has allowed administrative departments to release up to 50% of the annual budget provision under several expenditure heads for the 2026-27 financial year following the passage of the West Bengal Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2026 by the assembly and the governor’s assent.

A finance department order said departments can release up to half of the annual allocation for salaries, salary grants, wages, and scholarships and stipends under the health department. The same limit applies to other non-salary expenditure, except the SDRF.

Departments may sanction expenditure within their delegated financial powers, excluding subsidies and loans and advances. Public sector undertakings can also receive up to 50% of annual allocations for salaries and wages, with withdrawals restricted to actual monthly requirements after utilising available deposit balances.
