  • Kolkata: A 35-year-old accountant from Charu Market in south Kolkata was allegedly attacked in a road rage incident on Wednesday evening near Exide crossing.

The victim, Ajay Khemka, a resident of Deodar Rahman Road, filed a complaint with Bhowanipore police. He said he was returning home from office around 6.45pm and was driving towards Charu Market along Chowringhee Road when a dark-coloured vehicle hit the left side of his hatchback near the crossing of Chowringhee Road and Suburban Hospital Road.

Khemka alleged that the other vehicle was being driven rashly and tried to overtake him from the wrong side during heavy rain. After the collision, he stopped his car and lowered the window to check the damage.

According to his complaint, the driver of the other vehicle and a passenger got out, came to his car and abused him. When Khemka protested, they allegedly dragged him into a scuffle, restrained him and assaulted him with fists and blows.

Khemka suffered injuries on his face and hands. He said a few passersby came forward to help, after which the two men fled in their vehicle.

After the incident, Khemka found that his gold chain was missing. He also noticed damage to his car.

Police have registered a case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including rash driving, wrongful restraint, causing hurt, intentional insult, mischief causing damage, abetment and theft.

Investigators are checking CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle and trace the accused.
