Transport Dept Plans Behala Bus Study After Mins Meet

Kolkata: The transport department will conduct a passenger count study along with feasibility reports to boost the ailing public transport system across Behala.
Transport minister Arjun Singh on Wednesday said it was being attempted to allot more govt buses to some routes in the area.
Sports minister Indranil Khan, MLA from Behala west, requested Singh to ensure that govt bus services on at least 16 routes run uninterrupted throughout the day.
Khan also requested for uninterrupted services every 30 minutes for five hours twice a day during the peak hours.
The ministers discussed about expanding govt bus services in Behala West, restoring routes that had been discontinued or reduced, and building a safer and more accessible transport system, said the ministers.
Khan proposed to regularize bus services in areas, including Shakuntala Park, Sarsuna, Parnasree, and Thakurpukur.
The proposal connects these neighborhoods to Esplanade, Sealdah Station, College Street, and Howrah Station.
Khan outlined an operational timetable for the requested routes. He emphasized on maintaining consistency on existing routes over adding new designations to the transit network. The transport minister announced that the transport department will conduct passenger counts and feasibility assessments between Taratala and Joka. Singh stated that the department plans to complete the assessment within a set time frame. Decisions on fleet restoration and schedule will follow after talks with govt bus depots.
