Computer instructors of govt-aided schools demand job security

Kolkata: Computer instructors across govt-aided schools have demanded job security, an issue they have been fighting for decades. Following a press meet on Monday, they raised concerns and demanded that the govt take steps to ensure their job security.
The ICT United Platform (6th and 7th phase) held a press meet highlighting that its members are still employed through a private agency with a monthly remuneration of Rs 6,884 to Rs 7,130. They requested to be recognized as govt contractual staff and demanded abolition of the agency system upon their absorption.
Achintya Banerjee, a member of the forum, said, “We have been playing a major role in strengthening digital education in state schools. Despite performing the same duties and responsibilities, we continue to work under private agencies with inadequate remuneration, no service benefits, and no job security. We want the govt to look into the matter.”
They said that following a govt order in 2020, ICT teachers appointed during the 1st to 5th phases were recognized as govt contractual staff with a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 and other benefits. However, despite performing the same role, ICT computer instructors appointed during the 6th and 7th phases continue to be deprived of the benefits.
