Suvendu launches ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in Bhowanipore, seeks mass participation for Aug 10 event

Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari has urged people, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or political affiliation, to join the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ rally on Aug 10. On Friday, Adhikari launched the campaign from his Bhowanipore constituency, walking from Alipore to Hazra with several ministers, BJP MLAs and hundreds of party workers and supporters.
The CM started his march around 3 pm from Gopalnagar More in Alipore and proceeded towards Hazra crossing via Alipore Judges Court Road, Alipore Road, Kalighat Bridge and Hazra Road. Holding the Tricolour aloft, Adhikari led the procession as the participants, carrying the national flag, raised slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”.
Those present at the rally included BJP’s Rajasthan neta Rajyavardhan Rathore, state industry and commerce minister Tapas Roy, school education minister Dipak Barman, MLAs Shankar Sikdar and Shishir Bajoria, BJP district president Anupam Bhattacharya and women’s wing neta Paramita Dutta.
Outlining the culture department’s plans, Adhikari said: “We have taken up a major initiative to distribute 70 lakh national flags across the state. All govt and administrative institutions will be decorated with lights of the Tricolour. To inspire patriotism and national consciousness among the present and future generations, the state govt will arrange drawing competitions, quizzes and various cultural events in schools and colleges.”
Seeking mass participation in the Aug 10 rally, to be organised in the run-up to the 79th Independence Day, the CM said: “At 3 pm, a historic Tiranga march with nearly 50,000 participants will begin at the base of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s statue on Red Road and proceed to Gate No. 7 of Birla Planetarium. I urge all patriotic citizens, regardless of political affiliation, caste or religion, to take part in it.” He also recalled PM Narendra Modi’s message and requested everyone to make “Har Ghar Tiranga, Dil Se Tiranga, Pyar Se Tiranga” a success.
Adhikari also mentioned that during the previous govt’s tenure, there had been no administrative involvement in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign in Bengal. During the CM’s march on Friday, traffic movement was diverted along the route and there was heavy deployment of police personnel.
