‘Can’t wipe out deviations, but BJP won’t tolerate discipline’: Samik warning to workers

Kolkata: While “deviations” can’t be completely wiped out, BJP will have zero tolerance towards indiscipline, said party state president Samik Bhattacharya on Saturday. This comes a day after BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal held a series of meetings with party workers, functionaries and the state brass on issues of extortion and other “anti-party activities”.
“There is no political party which is free from deviations. Party is taking steps wherever there is a deviation. CM Suvendu Adhikari, from the first day in office, has tried to control this,” Bhattacharya said.
“If anyone from the party is involved in extortion syndicates, immediate action will be taken against them,” Bhattacharya said.
According to state BJP sources, Bansal questioned why grassroots complaints were repeatedly reaching Adhikari or Bhattacharya instead of being addressed by district and mandal leadership. Grassroots leadership was asked to be more proactive and assume greater responsibility for resolving such complaints at the organisational level.
“People did not vote merely for a change of jerseys. They voted for a Bengal free of post-poll violence,” Bhattacharya said. This comes after the party leadership received complaints over vandalism of opposition party offices. “BJP workers have not reacted to Trinamool’s torture. Else, many in TMC would have been lynched by this time. All former TMC ministers, MLAs and councillors are safe and unharmed. We wanted to give people relief from the culture of violence,” Bhattacharya added.
