Abhishek aide Sumit Roy moves Calcutta HC against 4 FIRs

Kolkata: TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s aide Sumit Roy has moved the Calcutta High Court challenging four FIRs lodged against him in different parts of Bengal, alleging they are “politically motivated”. The petition is likely to be heard on Tuesday.
The matter was mentioned before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya on Monday. Roy’s counsel submitted that despite the Supreme Court granting him interim protection from arrest, he has been cooperating with investigators in the Salboni case. However, notices have also been issued to him in four other FIRs.
The FIRs challenged by Roy include one at Kalitala outpost, two at Bishnupur Police Station and another at Rabindranagar Police Station. His petition alleged that investigating agencies were acting under political pressure instead of conducting an impartial probe. He has sought protection from any coercive or stringent action until the matter is disposed of.
Meanwhile, Roy appeared before the CID at Bhabani Bhawan at 11 am on Monday for the third consecutive day of questioning. Investigators questioned him for nearly eight hours over the alleged Debra job scam, in which he is accused of taking money to arrange jobs for 12 people. He left around 7 pm.
