• Banking on govt to clear Maidan Market block: Metro GM

  • Kolkata: Metro was banking on the state to clear the Purple Line’s BC Roy Market hurdle, Metro Railway general manager Prem Sagar Gupta said on Tuesday.

The state PWD recently asked the 528 traders at BC Roy or Maidan Market to shift to the temporary market, built for them, and make way for the Purple Line’s Esplanade Metro Station. “Such an issue crops up when a metro project is implemented in a congested city. We are constantly in touch with the state and we are banking on it to help overcome the hurdle.”

Not a single stall owner among the 528 traders at Maidan Market has yet shifted to the temporary market—rows of shops built by implementing agency RVNL on the Kolkata Mounted Police Paddock grounds.
