North-South Metro faces disruptions, twice in a day

Kolkata: A technical glitch disrupted the Blue Line (Dakshineswar-Shahid Khudiram) Metro services on Tuesday morning, leading to trains running behind schedule and leading to crowding at stations. Metro Railway authorities said services normalised shortly after 6.30am, though delays persisted for some time. Later in the day, another snag affected services between Noapara and Dakshineswar.
“During the usual inspection , a breach in signalling network was found between Noapara and Baranagar that caused an inoperative signalling system in this section,” Metro Railways said in a statement. “To completely rectify the breach of signalling network detected in the morning during usual inspection, a power block was taken in the non-peak hours from 1.32pm till 4.08pm in the Noapara-Dakshineswar section,” a Metro spokesperson said.
Truncated services were run between Shahid Khudiram and Noapara for a large part of the afternoon. Sameek Ray, a commuter, said, “I was taking my child home from school. We took the train from Maidan for Baranagar station. As we entered the station, there was an announcement that the trains would go only up to Noapara. It was quite an inconvenience, switching to an app cab.”
