Birbhum: Four BJP workers have been arrested following a violent protest at Block Land and Land Reforms Office (BLLRO) in Mayureswar on Tuesday. The accused allegedly ransacked the office premises and hurled eggs at Mayureswar BLLRO Dipankar Das during the agitation.
Sources said a group of BJP supporters — allegedly led by Atanu Chatterjee, former district secretary of the party — forced their way into the BLLRO office, locked the main gate, and threatened Das.
Chatterjee, who previously defected to TMC after the 2021 assembly elections before returning to BJP prior to the last assembly polls, was the party’s observer for the Rampurhat assembly constituency. Chatterjee accused the local administration of systemic corruption. “There is a syndicate of corruption in the BLLRO office. The BLLRO knows everything but did nothing. We think that he himself supports this syndicate and corruption,” Chatterjee claimed.
Local BJP netas have distanced themselves from the incident. Mayureswar BJP MLA Dudhkumar Mondal said the party would not shield anyone involved in illegal acts.
