Cases against 10 TMC workers in Keshpur after CM’s ‘jail’ call

Keshpur: Police in West Midnapore’s Keshpur registered cases against 10 Trinamool workers under nonbailable sections on Thursday after CM Suvendu Adhikari, on Tuesday, said he wanted to see them in jail for allegedly obstructing a rally of his in 2024 when he was leader of opposition.
The CM, while speaking at a rally on Aug 11, had recollected how Trinamool workers used to intimidate BJP supporters in the region and how false cases would be filed against them.
He then listed a series of names. “I know how to deal with goons. Pintu Midya, Pintu Rana, Bhaskar Chowdhury, Sarfaraz, Swapan Ghorai, Amjad Ali, Shahdat Kazi, Bairudding, Taru and Ismail — I am taking these names with me. We will speak later,” he had said.
He had added that many BJP functionaries had to “endure torture, face false cases and serve jail time in Keshpur for chanting ‘Modiji Zindabad’.”
Then, directly addressing West Midnapore SP Praveen Sultana, Adhikari had said: “In 2024, I was stopped from holding a rally in Keshpur. People could not come but I did. Let me say that I haven’t forgotten anything. Honourable SP, please reopen the case. I want to see everyone involved behind bars.”
Soon after the CM’s speech, local BJP functionaries lodged a complaint with the cops. In the complaint, they alleged that Trinamool workers had stopped a rally for BJP Lok Sabha election candidate from Ghatal, Hiranmoy Chatterjee.
They also alleged that there were incidents of bombing and BJP supporters were intimidated so that they didn’t attend the rally.
BJP district organisational secretary Tarak Jana said, “Trinamool unleashed terror surrounding the rally on May 21, 2024. There was even an attempt to kill our workers. We somehow managed to hold the meeting. I have lodged a complaint so that culprits face punishment.”
