Kunal Ghosh alleges vandalism at home, party office

Kolkata: Beleghata Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh’s residence, local club, and party office in the city’s Garpar area in ward 28 of north Kolkata was attacked by a group of unidentified miscreants attacked and vandalised on Wednesday evening.
Ghosh, who was not at home at the time of the incident, claimed the assault was a deliberate, targeted attempt to intimidate him.
The perpetrators reportedly forced their way near his residential gates and tried to force themselves inside before heading to his local office, vandalising the party board and tearing down banners, damaging property, and hurling verbal abuse.
Ghosh himself posted about the attack in a post on social media on Wednesday alleging that people from outside the area were sent to carry out the vandalism. He said witnesses told him that those involved were not from the locality and fled after the incident.
Linking the violence to internal political rivalry, Ghosh alleged that three individuals whom he characterised as “traitors” masterminded the incident. He suggested that the attack was a direct reaction to a recent statement he had published online, claiming continuous attempts were being made by certain factions to silence his political voice.
He wrote that three “traitors” were behind the incident and said he had already posted earlier that some people wanted to silence him by any means.
He also claimed that Bapi, an associate of NCPI MP Sudip Banerjee, had taken charge of circulating the images in an internal group of the party. He added that he knew “who in north Kolkata sends people to create such mischief and which figures were linked to the wetland-filling mafia.”
Tagging Kolkata Police, Ghosh alleged that some men from Ward 57 had been “hired” for the operation. He further wrote: “Those who attacked my house, club, and party office on Wednesday evening—identify and arrest them immediately… Weren’t a few men sent from ward 57, Meher Ali Lane, for money? What was a man named Gabbbar doing there? Police should collect information on these individuals at once. Then move against the real patrons and masterminds behind the attackers. We, too, are investigating. I hope the police treat this matter seriously. Otherwise, it will seem these acts are taking place with police support.”
