BJP Suspends Jadavpur Mahila Morcha Functionary After Cash Video Goes Viral

Kolkata: BJP has suspended a Jadavpur Mahila Morcha functionary, pending an internal investigation, after a video went viral of the woman allegedly receiving a stack of cash from a real estate promoter in Mukundapur.
The video, which remains unverified, depicts a man handing over cash to Mousumi Das, the women’s secretary of BJP’s Jadavpur organisational district, while stating, “This is your money. All of it is yours. How much was it... 80?” The footage sparked widespread speculation regarding allegations of localised extortion and illicit financial transactions involving political figures.
In a surprising turn, the Mukundapur-based real estate promoter visible in the video publicly stated on Wednesday that he had filed no complaint against Das. Refusing to reveal his identity, he characterised the exchange as an “internal matter within their neighbourhood” and denied either recording or circulating the footage.
The local cops said they are yet to receive a formal complaint on the incident. “The matter has been brought to our notice but since no legal action has been sought, no inquiry has been initiated yet,” said an officer.
However, following a formal complaint submitted to the state leadership, BJP issued Das a show-cause notice.
BJP’s Jadavpur organisational district president Manoranjan Joardar said: “We are conducting an inquiry to establish what actually happened.”
Pratap Banerjee, BJP’s state disciplinary committee chief, acknowledged the suspension but refused to share any further details about the incident.
The BJP disciplinary committee investigates complaints of anti-party activities, issues show-cause notices and recommends disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion. The mechanism operates through a multi-tier structure, with committees functioning at both the national and state levels.
“The panel examines the member’s response, or the absence of one, against the party’s constitution and stated ideology. It then submits its recommendations to the party president, ranging from formal warnings and temporary suspension to expulsion from the party’s primary membership,” a senior BJP functionary said.
Trinamool has claimed this was the face of “Poriborton”. “Is this what Bengal wanted to see?” an IT cell spokesperson.
