Kolkata: A day after police denied it, the FIR on the Entally protest in the wee hours of I-Day, involving a BJP faction outside Entally PS, has confirmed what TOI reported on Monday: the main entrance to the police station was locked by protesters to pressurise cops to accept their demands.
In a separate FIR, Entally police registered a case after “unidentified” persons allegedly uprooted the “khuti” of Durga Puja being organised at Paddapukur Maidan. Cops confirmed detentions for questioning in both cases.
The FIR was drawn up under BNS sections 189(1), 189(2), 190, 221, 224 and 352, based on complaint by sub-inspector Prasenjit Paul of Entally PS. He alleged that before 3.30 am on Saturday, the FIR-named accused, namely — Sudeep Ram, Dilip Ram and others — assembled at Paddapukur Maidan to protest against the alleged removal of a “khuti” installed for Khuti Puja.
“They subsequently assembled unlawfully at Entally PS and locked the main entrance gate under lock and key causing obstruction to police personnel, used abusive language and issued threats demanding immediate arrest of contain persons. Despite repeated requests, they continued their conduct until additional force arrived and dispersed them from main entrance gate of Entally Police Station investigation of the case is on progress,” the cops stated.
The Dilip-Sudip faction claimed protesters did not lock the gate and the cops themselves did so. The khuti complaint was lodged by Hindu Seva Dal member Ajay Shaw. The case, under BNS sections 324 and 3(5), alleges unknown persons uprooted the khuti around 12.55am. Lalbazar said the investigation is underway.
