10 buses kick off Naihati-Joka direct services via Sec V

Kolkata: A new direct private AC bus service from Naihati to Joka started operations on Monday with 10 buses. The new route was inaugurated on Sunday at Naihati bus terminus by transport minister Arjun Singh, with Naihati MLA Sumitra Chatterjee also present at the event.
The buses will travel from Naihati bus terminus to Joka via Shyamnagar, Barrackpore, Sodpur, Dunlop, Dakshineswar, airport, Chinar Park, Karunamoyee, Biswa Bangla Gate, Tata Medical Center, Chingrighata, Park Circus 7-Point, Minto Park, Alipore zoo, and Behala. The length of the Naihati-Joka route is around 75 km.
Sources said these AC buses had been operating on a popular app-based service earlier before seeking STA permission to begin commercial services. Two more AC buses are likely to join the fleet soon.
According to transport department sources, the will operate under a public-private partnership model through private participation and will provide a north-south connection that will pass through central Kolkata and the IT hubs of Salt Lake and New Town.
The transport department said it plans to improve Naihati’s connectivity with Kolkata and other parts of the state. According to the transport minister, there are also plans to introduce future bus links from Naihati to places like Siliguri, Birbhum, Asansol, and Durgapur.
The minimum fare is Rs 25 while the maximum is Rs 135. At present, buses are expected to be available roughly every 30 minutes.
“This direct service is expected to be especially beneficial for those who frequently travel to the airport, Salt Lake, Sealdah, Alipore, or Joka,” said Aniket Banerjee of Kolkata-bus-o-pedia.
