Kolkata: A 57-year-old man, Samir Sen of Russa Road, died after a portion of a balcony of a two-storeyed dilapidated residential structure in Golf Green collapsed on Sunday night. Cops said the victim was staying alone in the building. According to police sources, the incident took place around 10:50 pm on Aug 16 within the jurisdiction of the Golf Green police station. The entire balcony portion collapsed under him.
Hearing the sound, local inhabitants rushed to the spot and immediately alerted the local police and fire brigade. A team from the Golf Green police station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the information and managed to retrieve the victim’s body from the rubble.
Sen sustained multiple severe traumatic injuries. He was rushed to MR Bangur Hospital, but doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead. Civic officials and police personnel inspected the structure following the incident to assess the stability of the remaining building and secure the area to prevent further deaths. KMC sources said it has already declared the structure as dangerous.
