Kolkata: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Nalhati police station in Birbhum was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a young woman at a guest house in Salt Lake CL block for two days two months ago.
The 37-year-old ASI was arrested by Bidhannagar East police station from a hideout in Mumbai and was produced before a Salt Lake court on Tuesday that remanded him to police custody for 10 days.
According to the complaint lodged on June 19, the woman had alleged that the ASI had used his influence of a police officer and had forcibly confined her at a room in the guest house for two days before she had managed to flee.
The ASI’s counsels, however, claimed the physical intimacy between the duo was consensual while demanding bail. The rejected the plea and sent him to police custody.
