Malda: A 30-year-old Group D worker at Malda Medical College and Hospital has alleged that her supervisor repeatedly raped her while threatening to terminate her job.
She lodged a complaint against her supervisor Subhankar Laskar at English Bazar police station on Sunday. Police had the woman medically examined and arrested Laskar from his English Bazar residence. He was produced before a Malda court on Monday and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
The woman works on contract through an agency and is paid daily. According to her complaint, Laskar had a role in hiring and firing workers and repeatedly threatened to dismiss her unless she complied with his demands.
She alleged that Laskar raped her several times while threatening her with job loss.
The incident is the second such case reported at a govt hospital in Bengal in a year. In Sept 2025, a contractual ward attendant at Panskura Super Speciality Hospital was allegedly raped by a facility manager, who was later arrested.
